Barons defeat Springbrook Blue Devils 7-1
There was plenty of offensive action for the B-CC varsity girls soccer team in their match against Springbrook High School on October 12, a game B-CC won 7-1. Vic Gersh scored first for B-CC by dribbling along the goal line and then firing a geometry-defying goal with what appeared to be no angle whatsoever. During the next eight minutes, Hannah Levin scored twice, once after dexterously weaving between defenders, and then again off an Alex Doll shot that rebounded from the post. Alix Emden made it 4-0 when she launched a laser from the 15-yard line. Then, early in the second half, B-CC’s ledger added a unit on account of a decisive drive by Owyn Manson. While teamwork was evident throughout the match, the Barons displayed an exhilarating flare to produce their final two goals, the first on a string involving Thorpe-Emden-Hoffman-Amy Heaton for a goal, and the finale from Elena Muller-Emden-Heaton-Thorpe for another. Springbrook fought to the end, it should be said, celebrating a goal with 11 minutes remaining when forwards Lindsay Pinckney and Kiera Martinez teamed to find the net. In truth, B-CC dominated the game, however, with goalies Angela White and Frances Jaffe joining defenders Genova, Hardgrove, MacRostie, and Klontz to stem each Springbrook attack. In the meantime, B-CC stamped their seal of control on the midfield thanks to skillful play by Zoe Mesirow, Rebecca Wenker, Nicole Parina, Marilyn Hucek, and Liz Ward. In all, B-CC had 31 shots, 12 shots-on-goal, and eight corners; one save was registered by B-CC’s goalies.
