The BCC Girls Soccer team huddled around each other to keep warm in the pouring rain on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 14 before they spread out on the Paint Branch field.  Vic Gersh took a corner kick in the first minute of play and activated the score board off an own goal. Then two minutes later, Gersh fired the ball at the back of the net, earning a second goal for the Barons. The Barons kept the ball in their offensive third of the field with controlled passes by Alex Doll and Liz Ward. Hannah Levin placed a lovely cross at the feet of Vic Gersh who tapped it into the goal. Both Sasha Konownitzine and Angela White protected the Barons goal in the first half but very few balls reached the goal with effective defense provided by Mallory MacRostie, Anna Genova, Kara Klontz, Julia Hargrove, and Nicole Parina. As Caroline Khanna, Amy Heaton, and Zoe Thorpe entered the game, Heaton moved the ball forward to Gersh who sent the ball to the back of the net for goal number 4.
In the second half, Elena Muller showed her expertise with moving the ball down the line and crossed it to Kinsey Hoffman who found the net. Then Zoe Mesirow sent a powerful corner kick to the front of the goal and Zoe Thorpe headed it toward the goal but the Panthers goalie saved it. Rebecca Wenker took a beautiful shot after the Barons moved the ball to their final third. Going for her personal best, Gersh shot a ball from the 18 to tally another goal but it hit the side post. Then it was Marilyn Hucek’s turn. She ran the ball from the midfield into the box and fired unassisted, resulting in goal number 6. Hucek continued to threaten the Panthers as she moved the ball past two defenders and found Zoe Thorpe who got a shot on goal. Gersh scored the last goal for the Barons with 8 minutes remaining on the clock. Finally the patient Panthers got a free kick just outside their offensive third and managed to send the ball forward. Frances Jaffe made a great effort to capture the wet ball but it found the back of the net, giving the Barons a win 7 to 1.
