Barons defeat Gaithersburg Trojans 2-0
On October 19, B-CC faced a strong Gaithersburg team that had only given up 3 goals in 8 games. To heighten the drama, B-CC had to play without senior striker Owyn Manson who was out sick with the flu. B-CC rose to the challenge led by its strong defense. Defenders Mallory MacRostie, Anna Genova, Julia Hardgrove, and Kara Klontz combined with a solid game from goalie Sasha Konownitizine to shut out the Trojans and fought back several spirited attacks throughout the game. Along the way, the Barons defense delivered numerous long, accurate kicks from the goal area to attacking midfielders. Midfielders Vic Gersh, Caroline Khanna, Marilyn Hucek, Alex Doll and Hannah Levin received strong support from Zoe Mesirow, Amy Heaton and Elena Muller to maintain possession a good portion of the game. The Gaithersburg keeper blocked strong close-in shots by Alex Doll and Vic Gersh at the midway point of the first half. At the 13 minute mark, Molly Bortnick, a Trojans midfielder, fired a left-footed shot at the near post that looked to be a score until Sasha got down low to make an incredible save. Minutes later, a Vic Gersh corner kick led to a wild flurry for the ball which allowed freshman midfielder Caroline Khanna to gather a rebound and send it over the goalie to register her first score for B-CC. In the second half, Zoe Thorpe, playing striker with Kinsey Hoffman, scored her first goal of the season as well after taking a perfect lob pass from Alex Doll. In all, B-CC had 15 shots, 7 shots on goal, and 4 saves by Sasha.
