Barons defeat Damascus Hornets 4-0

On a perfect fall evening, B-CC celebrated senior night by recording its seventh shutout.  The Barons put together some of their most crisp passing of the season and quickly established dominance of the field.  At the 36 minute mark Vic Gersh gathered a fantastic cross from Owyn Manson to light the scoring board.  A few minutes later, Alex Doll took a direct free kick and placed a near-perfect shot that the Hornets keeper tipped over the crossbar.  With 22 minutes left in the half, Doll placed a through pass to Vic Gersh who out ran the Hornets over the last half of the field to score an explosive second goal to make it 2-0.  Minutes later, Alex Doll delivered a well-placed corner kick which led to a loose ball that Manson netted to up the lead to 3-0.  Senior goalie Francie Jaffe showed her skills by expertly saving a point blank shot at the 18-minute mark.  Later, Manson broke away down the left side of the field and scored with a well-placed left footed shot to make it 4-0 with 17 minutes remaining in the first half.  For the rest of the half, Doll, Levin, Hucek, Gersh, Khanna, Ward, Hoffman, Manson and Thorpe largely controlled the field while Jaffe and defenders MacRostie, Genova, Klontz and Hardgrove kept the Hornets scoreless.

In the second half, B-CC had trouble maintaining its bristling attack mode, in part, because of an assertive Hornet offside trap that succeeded in generating 13 whistles for Barons’ offside violations.  Still, the Barons managed to create additional scoring chances, as when Manson narrowly missed a close-in shot with 27 minutes left to play.  As time passed, the Hornets became more aggressive, forcing Barons keeper Sasha Konownitizine to make two saves on well-placed shots at the 26 and 25 minute marks.  To this end, the Barons were aided by the skillful play of B-CC goalies, Jaffe and White, along with midfielders Heaton, Emden, Muller, Wenker, and Mesirow.  Befitting of Senior Night, Anna Genova body-blocked a hard shot with 4 minutes to play, the last serious effort by the Hornets to score in what ended as a 4-0 game.  The Barons finished with 13 shots, 9 shots on goal, 3 goalie saves and 7 corner kicks.
